On Tuesday, the Sturgeon Bay City Council will determine who will replace Ed Ireland as 3rd District Alderman. Ireland recently resigned the position citing health reasons. Initially, five residents of the district expressed interest in the job. However, two of the candidates, Martha Beller and Dick Stuewer, have since dropped out of the running. That leaves Laurel Hauser, Barry Mellin, and David Ward. Prior to voting, the council will hear from the candidates, each explaining why they want to serve. Because Mellin is unable to make the meeting due to a previous commitment, his presentation will be in the form of a taped message. Eventually, the council will select the interim alderman by majority vote. The person selected will hold the 3rd district seat until the April election.
