Door County Highway Commissioner John Kolodziej insists highway department employees can spell, especially when the word is “Sturgeon” as in Sturgeon Bay. Kolodziej says some folks are blaming the highway department for the spelling of the city sign leading to the business exit off Highway 42/57, but department employees had nothing to do with it. Someone employed by the contractor doing roadwork near the exit left the “r” out of “Sturgeon” when a new sign went up. As you might expect, someone took a picture of the sign and posted it online, leading to a number of comments. Kolodziej says he expects a replacement sign to be installed in the near future.
