The segment of Maple Street in Sturgeon Bay which has been under construction since June 10th is getting closer to completion, but it may not be until mid-August before it’s open to traffic. The reconstruction project has included the removal of asphalt, the replacement of water main and sanitary sewer, the installation of sewer and water laterals, the removal of gutter and sidewalk and their replacement, and, most recently, the Installation of a new concrete road base. If all goes well, work on the section of Maple Street near Cellcom, will be wrapped up by August 7th.
We’re told the new pavement could be walked on in time for the Door County Classic and Wooden Boat Festival, but vehicular traffic may not be traveling the street until August 12th. Since the beginning of the project, a detour has been set up and the left turn arrow at the traffic signals at Maple and Madison have been turned off.
