The Door County Sheriff’s Department is reporting that a 29-year old man was severely injured in a logging accident on Chambers Island Wednesday morning. The Eagle-Three helicopter airlifted the victim from the site to Saint Vincent hospital in Green Bay. According to Lieutenant Jeff Farley, the man was injured around 6:30AM while attempting to cut a four foot in diameter mature maple tree about 50 feet tall. During the cutting operation, a branch broke off from an adjacent beech tree and struck the logger working below. Members of Door County Emergency Services, Gibraltar First Responders, Gibraltar and Ephraim Fire Departments, the Department of Natural Resources, and, Sheriff’s Department personnel responded to the accident site. Lieutenant Farley says the investigation is continuing and the name of the injured party has not been released.
