The Door County Sheriff’s Office announced that at about 2:00 Sunday afternoon, they received a call of a horse on the loose. It was first reported in the area of Bay Shore Drive in the Town of Sevastopol, but it then entered the Bay of Green Bay and started swimming towards Potawatomi State Park. The horse was later spotted running through the areas of Grondin Road, Duluth Avenue, and then near County Road S and Wilson Road. The owner informed the sheriff’s office this all brown horse is a wild mustang. There were several attempts to contain this horse both Sunday and Monday. Monday morning it was reported that the horse was spotted in the area of Shiloh Road near Division Road, just south of the City of Sturgeon Bay. A later report, however, placed the animal in the area of County Road T and Glidden Drive, so it seems he had swam back across the channel of Sturgeon Bay towards Sevastopol.
By mid-afternoon Monday it was reported the mustang was safely secured back in the Town of Sevastopol. The sheriff’s department sent out thanks to local horse specialist “Chewy” Juaregui of Gibraltar who helped in safely corralling the animal, and the 24-hour search and capture effort drew to a close.
