A long-time Door County government leader has passed away. Leo Zipperer, who was first elected in 1974, served for 28 years as a Supervisor on the Door County Board, including three stints as Chairman, and held the position of Sevastopol Town Chairman for many years, having first been elected in 1997. He died Monday at his home in Florida at the age of 77. Prior to running for public office, Zipperer was a State Trooper for 30 years. In the Town of Sevastopol, he was credited with overseeing projects like the town park and town hall. While he was Door County Board Chairman, several major projects were developed including the justice center and a major overhaul of the old courthouse, now the county government center.
