Local UW/Extension Offices Challenged by State Budget Cuts

The UW/Extension in Madison released a final plan on how its is going to deal with more than $3.5 million in budget cuts mandated by the state legislature. Rob Burke, Door County Extension Community Development Educator, who heads up the local office, says the plan, which is short on specifics, is indicating a shift in the areas where extension resources are invested…

Burke says as many as 80 positions could be eliminated. He says a steering committee is being formed to consider the future of state-wide UW/Extension programming…

Burke says the extension and Door County have had a great working relationship over the years and action on the county level has kept the local program viable over the years.
