There is a new volunteer-based organization that is sewing 100% cotton face masks for the door county community. This group, known as “Sew Masks for Door County”, began when Kayla Bissen started making face masks for her family and friends. In a recent phone interview, Kayla explains how it suddenly took off…….
What began as just a project to make masks for her family and friends was soon fulfilling a need for many other organizations across the county….
With recent requests from the Door County Medical Center and area nursing homes, this group is now partnered up with the Door County Emergency Response Coalition to assist in gathering donated materials from the public. They are asking for thread, elastic of one-half inch or less, unused elastic hair-ties, aluminum or galvanized steel wire of 18 to 20 gauge, and 100% tightly woven cotton fabric. These materials can be dropped off at various local fire departments. Of course they are also looking for more sewers, fabric cutters and preppers. Those interested can find more information at the Facebook page for “Sew Masks for Door County”.
