Local Citizens Group Tours Grain Elevator

A local citizens group toured the old grain elevator on the former Door County Cooperative property on Sturgeon Bay’s west side waterfront Friday, trying to get a better sense of the old building’s condition. The newly formed group, Center Line Community Forum was joined on the tour by Sturgeon Bay City Engineer Tony Depies and City Community Development Director Marty Olejniczak. Depies noted that some parts of the structure, such as the wood, was in good shape…

Depies agrees that the old grain elevator can be saved, but, like anything else in a development, money is the key…

As best as anyone can tell, the structure was built around the turn of the last century. The City of Sturgeon Bay has solicited proposals from parties who believe they can rehabilitate the old building.
