A lineman, working in northern Door County as part of a project for Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, was electrocuted Monday afternoon. The 27-year old Abrams, Wisconsin man was working on an upgrade of power lines off Highway 57, north of west Meadow Road, in the Baileys Harbor area, when the accident occurred. The injured party, an employee of MJ Electric, a WPS sub-contractor, was in process of stringing wire, a few thousand feet away from two other workers. He was found laying on the ground, between a work truck and trailer, unconscious and not breathing. Co-workers and emergency medical personnel were able to restore his breathing and he was airlifted to Aurora Baycare Hospital in Green Bay by the Eagle-III helicopter. No condition report is available. The highway was closed down between Ahrens and Grove Road at about 4:30PM while the contractor’s safety team investigated the accident. Shortly after 7PM, a Door County Deputy, with help from members of the Baileys Harbor Fire Department, reopened the highway. It was noted that, prior to the accident, a loose tail of wire on a large spool touched a live wire and arced.
