There was a good turnout Monday afternoon for a meeting on the fate of the Eagle Tower, the 75-foot observation deck at Peninsula State Park. The tower has been closed since May of last year because of structural problems and the Department of Natural Resources has indicated that it could be taken down. State Senator Frank Lasee, who organized the meeting at the old town hall in Fish Creek, is a strong supporter of renovating the structure and has fashioned a bill that would provide more than $300,000 in funding for the project. However, his counterparts in the senate have to agree to the large expenditure for one state park in Door County. The park’s “friends” group has also pledged to engage in a major fundraising campaign. The final decision on the fate of the tower will be made by the DNR.
