Large Portion of Bjorklunden Under Land Trust Protection

Nearly 70% of the Bjorklunden complex near Baileys Harbor, administered by Lawrence University, has been placed under the protection of the Door County Land Trust by way of a land easement agreement. Representatives of the Appleton university and the land trust met in the Lakeside Seminar Room of the Bjorklunden Lodge at the 425-acre estate and signed the paperwork Thursday morning. The agreement means the parcel protected can not be sold for commercial purposes, but the university retains ownership. The property was gifted to Lawrence University by Donald and Winifred Boynton and includes the famous Boynton Chapel. About 136 acres of land has been retained by the university to meet future needs at Bjorklunden.
