Large Donation Pushes YMCA Fundraising Close to the Million Dollar Mark

A $500,000 commitment from Green Bay Packaging and the George Kress Foundation has pushed the capital campaign for the new lifestyle center at the YMCA’s Northern Door Program Center past the $900,000 mark. The 3,500 square foot addition is the key component in the effort to raise the $1.5 million needed to construct the new lifestyle center, re-roof the gym, replace the facility’s air handling units, and, update the locker room shower rooms. The new lifestyle center at the Fish Creek facility will face Gibraltar Road. It’s hoped that construction will begin prior to the end of the year. Three quarters of a million dollars raised last year was used to expand the mechanical room at the aquatic center and replace the dehumidification system and boilers. Tom Beerntsen, the Chief Executive Officer of the Door County YMCA, says the plan is to move forward with each improvement at the Northern Door Program Center as funds are secured.
