Land Trust Adds 17 Acre Conservation Easement

A 17-acre conservation easement, located near the 274 acre Bayshore Blufflands Nature Preserve, between Egg Harbor and Sturgeon Bay, is now part of an agreement between the owners and the Door County Land Trust. The conservation agreement permanently limits land uses and protects conservation values. The parcel adds to a complex of ecologically rich lands where several rare and threatened species have been identified. Waters from agricultural lands to the east are filtered through wetlands on the property before draining into the Bay of Green Bay. Part of the Niagara Esacarpment, the parcel includes wetlands which were never farmed or grazed, preserving the native plants found there. As such, it is the longest stretch of pristine escarpment remaining in Door County.
