Kewaunee County Budget Includes $1.7 Million in Savings

Kewaunee County taxpayers will see a drop in the county portion of their tax rates for 2019 after the adoption of a $22,783,968 budget by the County Board. The drop in the tax rate amounts to a reduction from $7.30 to $7.25 per $1,000 of equalized value. The reduction is credited to a decrease in expenditures of $1.7 million from year to year.
Notable spending reductions were seen from the closure of the county landfill, from $1.4 million to $63,000. The County Board also committed $40,000 in funding for the Kewaunee County Economic Development Corporation, and $25,000 toward county staff productivity training. The board adjusted its commitment in expanding broadband internet access by creating a committee to discuss & research the issue before designating any funding.
