Kayaker Rescued Near Ephraim

A kayaker was transported to Door County Medical Center for treatment of hypothermia after he ended up in the waters of the Bay of Green Bay near North Shore Road in Ephraim Tuesday afternoon. Ephraim Fire Chief Justin MacDonald said the page came in at about 1PM that a man in his 50’s was in the water. Chief MacDonald said the Gibraltar Fire Department provided mutual aid by sending its boat because Ephraim’s rescue boat was out of service. The victim was plucked out of the water and taken to a private dock where a waiting ambulance transported him to Sturgeon Bay. Chief MacDonald said, despite the relatively mild weather, there were two to three foot waves at the time of the accident. The kayak was recovered and taken to Nicolet Bay at Peninsula State Park. Fire crews cleared the scene shortly before 2PM.
