The Door County Humane Society says it’s board of directors is working cooperatively with the Door County Sheriff’s Department as part of an investigation into the misappropriation of funds by its former Executive Director, Carrie Counihan. According to a news release issued by the Humane Society Friday, board members discovered the financial problems a few days after Counihan was asked to leave her position. At that time, Board President Marilyn Jensen contacted the Sheriff’s Department and a cooperative investigation was launched. Jensen said the Door County Humane Society is functioning well under the direction of Carol Boudreau, a recent staff restructuring has put the animal shelter in a strong position, staff Is working hard, and, performing exceptionally well. Jensen went on to say that the shelter is financially stable, is operating smoothly, and, remains focused on its mission. The news release also noted that, because the investigation in ongoing, no more details can be released.
