Door County experienced a substantial ice and wind storm Sunday, late into the evening. Over a 24-hour period, the Door County emergency dispatch received 19 calls for trees down and 11 calls for power lines down due to the storm. This led to numerous power outages across the peninsula, and there were also many fire calls for trees and large limbs falling onto power lines. Sunday, the community center on Washington Island opened up as a warming center for island residents who might’ve lost power or heat. Monday morning, the Baileys Harbor Fire Department also opened up for folks to warm up or just to charge their phones. Effects from the storm also resulted in classes being canceled Monday at the Washington Island School, and there was a 2-hour delay for the start of the school day at Sevastopol Schools.
