The Wisconsin Department of Transportation believes it will be able to open up the segment of Highway 42/57 in Sturgeon Bay that has been under construction since March, on July 1st in anticipation of the 4th of July holiday. The opening will provide the first test of two roundabouts at Michigan Street and Egg Harbor Road. In addition, motorists will be able to cross the Bayview Bridge for the first time in about four months. The most recent update for the 1.6 mile stretch of Highway 42/57 indicates that next week work crews will be involved in sign installation, pavement marking, and restoration, plants and trees will be planted in the roundabouts, and the roadway will be cleaned up in anticipation of the highway’s opening to traffic.
Along the Bayview Bridge, workers will finish bolting the grid deck panels on the lift span, epoxy will be used on the beam end block repairs, “shotcrete” will be placed on the piers, and work in the machine room will be completed.
