The Door County YMCA has announced that work on a new lifestyle center at its Northern Door Program Center is slated to begin at the end of the month. The public is invited to attend a formal ground-breaking ceremony which will be held at 11:30AM on Friday in Fish Creek. The “Y” has been planning the addition and renovation project for more than three years. The new 3,500 square foot lifestyle center will be built south of the gym, overlooking Gibraltar Road and housing the cardio and free weight equipment. More than $1.4 million has been raised for this phase of the project. Fundraising efforts will continue to generate the dollars needed to complete the renovation of the existing lifestyle center area, remodel the current blue room space, and, provide new and replacement equipment for the new cardio and free weight area. A minimum of $200,000 is needed to complete these projects. Currently, the YMCA has a $200,000 challenge gift which will match each new dollar raised. The contracts which have been signed for the phase two projects also include the renovation of the shower rooms and restrooms and the installation of a new gym roof. It is hoped that the new spaces will be open to the public early next summer.
