Sturgeon Bay’s old Pamida building stands just north of the Virlee Gunworks location near 12th Avenue and Egg Harbor Road. This building, which has sat empty for many years, will soon become the new Sturgeon Bay activity/event center, and that process began with a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday morning. The 21,000 square foot building, which began as a Pamida, later became the site where a local shipyard was building cabinets. Now, after years of being vacant, the site will be remodeled to create an event center which will include indoor golf and axe throwing areas, bars, and a commercial kitchen. The remodel work will be done by Bayland Buildings, and they expect to have the work completed by November. The groundbreaking ceremony was conducted by the owners’ group consisting of members of the Estes and Virlee families, and Sturgeon Bay Mayor David Ward.
