While discussions about the configuration of the public access areas of Sturgeon Bay’s west side waterfront are ongoing, some action is being taken. For instance, the city council recently agreed to keep the process moving with regard to funding for the infrastructure related to the site formerly owned by the Door County Cooperative. On Tuesday, the council will consider a resolution that would allow for an application for grant funding through the DNR Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund. Though planning for the property has yet to be firmed up, it was suggested that a restroom facility with multiple capabilities, including park storage space, could meet the funding program’s criteria. It’s estimated that $200,000 would be needed to build the facility with the state grant providing up to 50% of the eligible project costs. The grant period will not begin until 2016.
