Fundraising Continues for Potawatomi Park Fishing Pier

The Friends of Potawatomi State Park have announced that a $25,000 fundraising challenge, offered locally by a generous family, has been matched. The friends group is working to raise funds for the construction and installation of a new handicapped accessible fishing pier at the southern Door County park. In October of 2014, the howling winds and pounding waves of a massive storm caused extensive damage to the pier. It was not the first time that the pier sustained extensive damage. After evaluating the situation, it was determined that the best alternative is to construct a new permanent pier, designed to better withstand the conditions at the site. So far, $257,000 of the $313,000 project has been raised through a partnership between the friends group and the Door County Community Foundation. The group is now asking the people who love Door County to join them in investing in a new accessible fishing pier for the park. To learn more, visit www.parkpier.org or call (920)-746-1786.
