A group that is challenging the effort to building a hotel on Sturgeon Bay’s west side waterfront, has filed a brief in federal court opposing a motion to dismiss a lawsuit against the City of Sturgeon Bay and its waterfront redevelopment authority. The group, the Friends of Sturgeon Bay Public Waterfront, claims that a portion of the parcel in question is in the public trust and should not be sold to an individual developer. According to the news release, Midwest Environmental Advocates has joined the Madison law firm that is pushing the lawsuit filed by a half a dozen local residents. The friends group has established a legal fund and is seeking donations. To date a number of non-profit advocacy groups such as the Door Property Owners and the Door County Environmental Council have endorsed the legal activity.
