The former Director of the Door County Humane Society was in Door County Circuit Court Tuesday at a brief hearing related to felony charges of theft from a business setting and identity theft. Carrie Counihan waived her right to a preliminary hearing and entered not guilty pleas to the charges. The 39-year old county woman is accused of taking nearly $23,000 from the organization and using it for personal purposes during her tenure. Counihan is charged with 11 counts of identity theft in connection with the use of the humane society’s credit card. Bail of $25,000 signature bond continues, along with a number of provisions set down by Judge Peter Diltz at a previous court hearing. Counihan’s next court date is in July. She is being represented by Green Bay Attorney Eric Wimmer. Assistant district attorney Joan Korb is handling the prosecution.
