Former Humane Society Director Accused of 12 Counts

WDOR News has learned that the former Executive Director of the Door County Humane Society is accused of 11 counts of identity theft and one count of theft from a business setting during her time with the local organization. According to a 22-page court complaint, 39-year old Carrie Counihan contended in a police interview that she mistakenly used the Humane Society credit card for personal purposes 86 times. The complaint also alleges that the total amount misappropriated by the county woman totals nearly $23,000. Counihan is expected to make an initial appearance before Judge Peter Diltz at 10AM on May 4th. At that time, the court complaint will be reviewed, a decision on a preliminary hearing will be made, and, bail will be set. Counihan had been Executive Director of the Door County Humane Society for ten years before it was announced in January that she had resigned.
