Five people have expressed interest for the 3rd District Aldermanic seat on the Sturgeon Bay Common Council, most recently was held by Ed Ireland. Health issues are forcing Ireland to retire ten months before the end of his term. There’s still time for district residents to drop off a letter of interest at City Clerk Stephanie Reinhardt’s office at city hall, but the deadline is at the close of business Friday afternoon. So far, Martha Beller, Laurel Hauser, Barry Mellen, Richard Stuewer, and David Ward have indicated they’d like to represent the 3rd District. To be nominated to fill the vacancy, you must be a legal citizen of the United States, at Least 18 years of age, and have lived in the district for 28 days at the time of nomination. The person selected will serve out the remainder of Ireland’s term which ends in April of 2017.
