The Door County Maritime Museum has announced that it has successfully finished the first phase of fundraising as part of its lighthouse tower expansion project. So far, more than $2.5 million has been raised. The overall project goal is $5.5 million. William Harder, Museum Board President, says the museum has been receiving feedback from individuals, organizations, foundations and professional maritime groups who are excited to be a part of the local effort. The new maritime lighthouse is intended to stand as a lasting tribute to the importance of the region’s rich maritime history and provide a unique and fun way to explore the waterfront with an impressive panoramic view. When weather permits, the 11th level on the structure will be open, providing a panoramic view of the port of Sturgeon Bay.
