The Sturgeon Bay Fire Department investigated the report of an explosion at the city’s transfer station off Division Road Friday morning. A general alarm was paged out at about 9AM after a caller said there was a loud explosion and smoke at the garbage and recycling center. Firefighters arriving on scene could find no fire. They learned that there had been an explosion strong enough to shatter the windshield of a loader and found evidence that something had occurred, but were unable to pinpoint the cause of the blast. Emergency Services Director Dan Williams was also on hand at the transfer site.
