Fire Disables Sailboat Near Cave Point

A unit from the US Coast Guard Canal Station in Sturgeon Bay towed a 33-foot sailboat to port Monday afternoon after receiving a report that the vessel was on fire on Lake Michigan, east of Cave Point. The Jacksonport Fire Department also sent its boat to the distress call and law enforcement and emergency personnel stood by. A couple from Frankfort, Michigan and their dog were on the sailboat when they noticed smoke coming out of a cabinet shortly after 4PM. When the Coast Guard crew arrived, the fire was out, but the sailboat was disabled. There were no injuries. The vessel was towed to a Sturgeon Bay marina for repairs.
