Fatal Accident Sunday Night Near Cherryland Airport

Two people died and and another sustained life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening at the intersection of County PD and County C in the Town of Nasewaupee. The initial investigation indicates that a 2011 BMW was northbound on PD when the driver failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a pickup truck that was heading east on County C. The victims, a 52-year old resident of Green Bay and the driver of the car, a 16-year old Green Bay woman, passed away due to their injuries, the woman at a Green Bay hospital. Another passenger, a 20-year old woman from Austin, Texas, was air-lifted to medical facilities in Green Bay by the Eagle-III helicopter. The driver of the pickup truck escaped injury. The Door County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the accident at 6:39 Sunday evening. Joining deputies at the scene were personnel from the Southern Door Fire Department, Southern Door First Responders, Door County Emergency Services, the DNR, and, Sturgeon Bay Police. County C and PD were closed for several hours while the crash was investigated and traffic was diverted around the area. The Wisconsin State Patrol Accident Reconstruction Unit assisted deputies in the accident investigation. The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
