A 64 year-old Sturgeon Bay man died as a result of injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 57, near County P, in the Town of Sevastopol Friday evening. Robin Laak was pronounced dead at Door County Medical Center.
The initial investigation indicates that shortly before 7PM, a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling south on Highway 57 near County P, while Laak was attempting to cross the highway, heading in an easterly direction toward a parking lot. Laak was struck by the vehicle, driven by a 33 year-old Sturgeon Bay man. The driver and his 28 year-old passenger escaped injury.
Highway 57, from County P, to Ripp Road remained closed for several hours while the crash was investigated and traffic was detoured around the accident scene. Highway 57 was reopened to traffic at 1:39AM Saturday.
The Door County Sheriff’s office was assisted in the crash investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol reconstruction unit.
