Farm Pays Fine for Manure Spreading Violation

Haberli Farms of Egg Harbor, paid an amended fine of $263.50 in Door County court in connection with a manure-spreading operation last September that affected wells in the Jacksonport area and left more than a dozen people sickened. Based on a negotiated agreement with Door County, the farm operation agreed to enter a no contest plea, pay a fine of $263.50, & comply with a first offense citation. The fine was also amended from the original $389.50. The manure was mistakenly spread over a sinkhole on the property by a Bonduel firm contracted to do the work. The citation issued by County Corporation Counsel Grant Thomas indicated that the violation had to do with manure applied over a bedrock opening.
