DOT Working With County on Gordon Road Intersection

This year alone, there have already been 6 bad accidents at the intersection where Gordon Road meets Highway 42/57 just north of Sturgeon Bay. The Door County Highway Department has been trying to work with the state to figure out an interim solution which will transition well with a permanent solution, which will take longer to implement. We recently spoke with with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Safety Engineer for this region, Mason Simmons, and he says at this time they are working with the public on establishing a solution while they also secure federal funding…

Working towards that federal funding involves seeking more approval and justification. Simmons tells us more…
Another complexity with fixing this intersection is the timing, as winter temperatures are not reasonable for new blacktop. The DOT is however using this time to establish the proper longterm solution while also helping the county with an interim solution…
Keep in mind that the state also plans to resurface the section of highway from the Egg Harbor Road roundabout north to the highway split near the Mill Supper Club. Any interim and long-term solution will also have to be coordinated with that work as well.
