DOT Reaffirms Roundabouts Coming to Sturgeon Bay

The wheels are in motion and roundabouts are on their way to Sturgeon Bay. The Department of Transportation says its timetable is already underway and folks will be making their way around the circular intersections in July, if the weather holds up. State Senator Frank Lasee held a two-hour listening session on the Highway 42/57 project in Sturgeon Bay Monday evening at the Door County Government Center. The project includes repairs to the Bayview Bridge, a complete makeover of Highway 42/57 between Michigan Street and Egg harbor Road, including roundabouts at the highway intersections with Michigan Street, and Egg Harbor Road, and work at Alabama Street. Most of the discussion focused on the roundabouts with the majority asking the state agency for another alternative. Will Dorsey, Northeast Region Director for the Green Bay DOT office, said the project has been studied, in one way or another, for more than 20 years. Dorsey said the decision still comes down to safety and operational status…

Dorsey said the process was already in the “11th hour,” and work is moving forward…

If the weather cooperates, work on the Highway 42/57 project in Sturgeon Bay could begin in March.
