Door County Cashing in on Earned Media Program

Door County is cashing in on the effort to promote local tourism attractions through earned media efforts. The Door County Visitor Bureau program, launched in 2007, is approaching the $14 million mark. The program welcomes journalists to the county so they can experience the array of local specialties first hand. They, in turn, write articles about the Door County experience which appear in everything from magazines, newspapers, and websites, to radio shows, video presentations, podcasts and more. The Door County Visitor Bureau has partnered with Geiger and Associates public relations to organize press tours. The visitor bureau’s Jon Jarosh has played an active role in seeing to it that the journalists have something to write about. This year, six Door County press tours have already been hosted and two others are planned for this month and next.
