Door County Campgrounds Temporarily Closed

In a release yesterday from Door County Public Health manager Susan Powers, she announces the temporary closure of all campgrounds within Door County. Although the governor’s “Safer at Home” order lists campgrounds as essential, there are additional factors specific to Door County which led to the decision to close. Door County has such a large percentage of a more aged population and these people are particularly vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus. Door County has many campgrounds that draw thousands of people from inside and outside the county. Also, camping in Door County encourages non-essential travel. These details and others have led Door County Public Health to decide on the temporary closure. However, seasonal campground occupants who already arrived before April 15th may be allowed to remain in place, but if any of those already here leave to return to their place of residence they are not permitted to return to re-occupy the seasonal site.
