DNR Grant Will Help With Plan for Ahnapee Watershed

A grant from the Department of Natural Resources will help the Door County Soil and Water Conservation Department put together a plan for the Ahnapee watershed, from the Forestville dam to the river’s Town of Gardner source. The Door County Board accepted the $20,000 grant during its regular meeting Tuesday. Already, the county soil and water conservation department has taken water and core samples and documented aquatic and plant life in the southern door water system. Once the plan is submitted to the DNR, it’s anticipated that its findings will be used to mitigate pollution in the river and to remove several feet of sludge. The resolution approved by the county board indicates that the project will not require additional funds from the county.
