Governor Tony Evers and the DNR have announced that beginning Friday, April 10th, 40 state parks, forests, and recreational areas across the state will close to protect the health and safety of Wisconsinites. There have also been unprecedented crowds, litter, and vandalism in some parks. According to the list of closed parks, so far none of the state parks in Door County will be affected by this closure. Despite the waiving of fees, closing park offices, visitor centers, and non-essential buildings to help minimize the spread of COVID-19, the situation has reached the point where public safety takes precedence over keeping these locations open. If park visitors do not follow social distancing guidelines and continue vandalizing property, more state parks may have to close.
