It looks like the piles of dirt on Sturgeon Bay city property on the west side waterfront will remain there, but in a different configuration. Earlier this week, city staff was told to knock the piles down and smooth out the dirt on the parcel adjacent to the Door County Maritime Museum. In a letter to the city, developer Bob Papke had indicated that the ground is his and, according to a development agreement, could not be moved from the property. Papke, who is currently suing the city over the circumstances related to the failed development of a hotel on the property, had indicated that the city could have the dirt for $16,000. However, the city council this week decided that it would move ahead with spreading the dirt on the land sometime this month.
