Two committees of the Sturgeon Bay City Council heard presentations on a proposed development for the former Harbor Place Shoppes site on Sturgeon Bay’s west side Wednesday. The Waterfront Redevelopment Authority was briefed on the project by Chris Laurant and Jeff Gillis during the afternoon. That presentation was followed up by a visit to the city plan commission during the evening. City Community Development Director Marty Olecniczak says conceptual drawings of a four story apartment building housing 33 units, covered parking and retail shops on the lower level were generally well received at both meetings…


Olejniczak says most of the city activity related to the proposed project will happen on the plan commission level…


The Harbor Place Shoppes complex at 49 Madison Avenue was severely damaged in a fire in June of 2014. The building was razed by property owner Thomas “Cap” Wulf earlier this year. Plans for New Urban Focus, Incorporated, prepared by JLA Architects & Planners of Madison, including conceptual renderings were presented at the meetings Wednesday.
