Development Process Continues for Former Harbor Place Shoppes Site

A preliminary planned unit development for a proposed housing complex on Sturgeon Bay’s west side was given the go-ahead to continue the PUD process by the Sturgeon Bay Common Council Tuesday evening. A Madison firm, New Urban Focus, Incorporated, is proposing to build a four-story facility at 49 North Madison Avenue, on the site of the former Harbor Place Shoppes. The four-level building, as envisioned, has parking and retail shops on the lowest level and 35 rental units in the rest of the space. Conditions for the structure indicate that it should not exceed four stories and 47 feet, that the project is not to exceed 36 residential units, that minimum yards and building setbacks shall conform to the final site plan, and, the city must approve the vacation of a portion of right-of-way off Madison Avenue and dedication of the eight foot strip of right-of-way along Larch Street. The council action means the building request returns to the city plan commission for development of final planned unit development materials.
