By the end of next week, the building that once housed the Harbor Place Shoppes and other businesses over the years, could be completely removed from Sturgeon Bay’s west side business district. The structure at 49 North Madison Avenue was severely damaged in a fire during the early morning hours of June 30th. Action on demolishing the building was initially delayed while the owner, Thomas “Cap” Wulf, negotiated with his insurance provider. Later, after Wulf contracted with Lily Bay Sand and Gravel to raze the building, the demolition work was held up while waiting for the project to be cleared by the state and utilities to be attended to. On Wednesday, a crew began taking the structure down from the rear. It’s anticipated that the work will be wrapped up sometime next week.
