The Door County Public Health Department reports that a dead crow found in the county on July 26th has tested positive for West Nile Virus. It’s the first bird that tested positive for the virus in Door County since surveillance for the mosquito-transmitted virus began in May. West Nile Virus is spread to humans through the bite of a mosquito that has fed on an infected bird. It should be stressed that no cases involving humans have been reported in Door County. Last year, 13 cases of West Nile Virus were reported in Wisconsin. Most cases were reported in August and September.
