The Door County Maritime Museum is about a fourth of the way toward raising the $4.3 million needed to erect a tower at its Sturgeon Bay facility. The state gave the organization the go-ahead to build the tower at its west side waterfront site last week. As envisioned, the imposing structure would also provide space for exhibits and an observation deck with a spectacular view of the waterfront. While the idea of building a tower at the Door County Maritime Museum looking similar to a lighthouse has been kicking around for more than decade, the push to make that happen has really picked up in intensity in recent years.
