The Door County Board of Supervisors Tuesday will be asked to appropriate $70,000 to help pay for phase two restoration work at the Cana Island Lighthouse complex near Baileys Harbor. The cost of restoration work was pegged at $382,000 with up to $200,000 coming from the Cana Island Restoration Fund and up to $214,000 provided by the Door County Maritime Museum. The additional dollars are needed because the museum fell short in its fund raising efforts. If the expenditure is approved, the money will be transferred from the county’s fund balance. The upgrades at the Cana Island site will be concentrated on the oil house/privy and storage shed and include wood and metal roofing, doors and windows, plaster, wood flooring, electrical, earthwork and landscaping.
