County Board Exploring Options for New Ambulance Garage & Senior Center

About half of the 21-member Door County Board toured the former Door County highway Shop off 14th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay Tuesday. Supervisors had been phasing in plans for a new central ambulance garage and community resource center in Sturgeon Bay until they decided to take a step back and consider a different direction. Now the focus is whether or not the old highway shop, which is essentially being used for storage, can be economically transformed into a multi-purpose facility that could house the ambulance garage and the senior center. With requests for proposals for a feasibility study of the structure expected by mid-October, representatives of firms that might take on the study project also toured the building Tuesday.
