The Northern Sky Theater can move ahead with plans to construct a post summer performance center in the Town of Gibraltar now that the Door County Board has agreed to a zoning change recommendation. Supervisors, on a unanimous vote Tuesday, approved the change for a 17-acre parcel of land off County Trunk A and across from the Greenwood Supper Club. The theatrical group, formerly known as American Folklore Theater, plans to continue its summer programming at Peninsula State Park, but hopes to move its operation from various locations in the county to two new buildings to be constructed on the parcel currently owned by Stella Maris Parish. In order to do so, Northern Sky needed general commercial zoning for the property, rather than the more restrictive countryside zoning. The county board action sets the stage for the purchase of the property from the parish.
