Council Votes to Keep Dogs Out of Parks

Dogs will not be allowed in Sturgeon Bay city parks after all, at least not for the time being. On a vote of four to three, the second reading of an ordinance change allowing dogs in all city parks was defeated. A first reading had been approved on a four to three vote at a previous meeting. Alderman Ron Vandertie, Chairman of the Park and Recreation Committee, said committee members were not totally opposed to dogs in city parks, but wanted to limit access to the certain parks and consider the matter again after a trial period. Vandertie said he hoped the committee could come to a consensus on the matter and provide another recommendation in the near future.
