Council to Review Harbor Development Statement Tuesday

A three year harbor development statement of intentions will be reviewed Tuesday when the Sturgeon Bay City Council meets in regular session. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation uses the statement of intentions provided by various ports to gauge the level of port activity and determine how much funding to request from the legislature for the Harbor Assistance Program. The program provides 80% grant funding for harbor improvements related to commercial transportation. While submitting the statement does not obligate the city to the projects listed, failing to list a proposed project in the materials submitted to the DOT means there will be no opportunity for the city to apply for grants. The projects listed in the three year plan include…
East side dock improvements
A new pier extending from Sawyer Dock
The dock wall along the harbor business center
The Sunset Park dock facility
The Harbor Assistance Program statement of intentions must be submitted by April 1st of each year to be able to apply for harbor assistance grants.
